Understanding

Understanding  is having a sympathetic awareness of and appreciating the challenges and difficulties encountered by others.   It means not applying blame when tasks are not completed, or judging someone as peculiar because they are different to you or behave in a way you do not expect.   Understanding requires you to look at things from the opposite perspective and accept the view you see.   It is being willing to listen and evaluate in an honest fashion and not allowing the ego to cloud your view.

In order to bring understanding more fully into your life, you need to be aware when instinctive emotional reactions try to enter your responses and identify what the emotion is and why it is there.   It is like getting angry when someone has run into your car and made a mess of it.   Your anger and emotion comes from your ego saying that as the car is an extension of you and it has been damaged then the ego is damaged and your status has been reduced.   Emotions arise from fear in recognising that you too could cause a similar accident but its not your fault this time. In reality the car is not part of you and by driving in a proper manner there will be no cause for an accident and you the Self remain unchanged. It is fear that blocks you from being understanding.
